Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU):
The Academy of Performing Arts (AMU) is a university level school of music, dance, drama, film, TV and multi-media studies. It was founded by the Presidential Decree of October 27, 1945.
The Academy of Performing Arts consists of three faculties. The faculties are as follows: film and TV school, music faculty and theatre faculty.
Besides the theatre Disk and Film Studio, the Academy has some other teaching facilities, e.g., sound and photography studios, laboratories, workshops, dancing and training halls. Recently, in the newly reconstructed Lichtenstein Palace, an impressive concert hall dedicated to the memory of the Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů has been added.
Karlin Music Theater
It was built in 1881 in a mock-baroque style. First it was a building for circus. Towards the end of the century, it was rebuilt for variety performances. Karlin Music Theatre has a group of soloists; a symphonic orchestra - head-conductor Arnost Moulik; a ballet group. With the operetta repertoire, the theatre group visits foreign countries, where it shows it is of the same level as the theatres in western Europe. With the musical My Fair Lady Karlin Was in Japan Tour 2000. Karlin was first theater from Czech Republic with a musical in Japan.
Vinohrady Theater
In the center of Prague there is the majestic Art Nouveau building of the Vinohrady Theater, one of the Prague's oldest and most reputable theatres. It opened in 1907. In this theater were working such famous and honored people as Karel Čapek, Fraňa Šrámek, Václav Vydra, Vlastimil Brodský.
Dance center Prague - conservatoire
Dance centre Prague is one of the biggest and oldest organizations of contemporary dance in the Czech Republic. "Dance Centre Prague - conservatoire" is an eight-year secondary school for students aged 12 - 19. Teachers and students establish and develop contacts with other schools and dancers from abroad. The school ensemble has performed in most European countries, the U.S.A. and Asia. Approximately 20 percent of dance lessons in senior classes are taught by foreign teachers. Graduates of conservative are members of significant Czech dance companies (e.g. National Theatre Ballet, Ballet Prague) as well as members of foreign ensembles (in Berlin, Munich, Haag, New York).
